After 5 years of procrastinating...

I finally got my driver's license. Okay, stop the snickering and I will tell you why.

Growing up as the youngest in a family of five, the last thing a 16 year old thinks about is getting a car or a permit. I know it seems like a rite of passage at that age, and sure it probably is - if you're an only child or semi-well off. But my dad was a single parent who worked his butt off to put food on the table and he taught me that if I wanted something, I would earn it.

Well Lieutenant broke that deal right in half when he bought me my car. Soon after he bought it, as I mentioned before - for $21 - we got our PCS orders and I knew we would be driving there.

I managed to pry myself off of the couch at 3 a.m. and get to the DMV where after 3 minutes of driving and hitting a curb, the instructor failed me. So I came back the next day and they wouldn't see me because I was 17th in line to test. So we drove to ANOTHER DMV and they were closed. So then we drove to ANOTHER DMV and were 25th in line. So I said screw it and we went to eat and then went home.

The next day I was fed up with a capital F. Lieutenant had to work so I got up at 3 a.m. again and drove myself (illegally) to a little known DMV. I was FIRST in line and I passed after 10 minutes! I told the instructor that she saved my life and I was two seconds from giving her the biggest hug I could....but then I might have changed her mind! So instead I thanked her profusley and drove my happy ass to get an energy drink and chocolate.Oh you know I did.

I honestly never want to go through that again. I hate the DMV with so much passion. It is the one place where NOBODY wants to be and EVERYONE has anxiety about - even the employees.

Ces't la vie.
